All About Microsoft’s Mary-Jo Foley has a post up with some details about the next version of Microsoft SQL Server. Microsoft has a press release that went out yesterday to coincide with their second annual BI Conference in Seattle, that has some information about some of the BI enhancements that are on tap for the release.
A mid-to-late 2010 release would seem to coincide with has been released about the next version of Visual Studio.
Beta News has a little more clarification about this. It is still unclear whether there might be a “SQL Server 2008 R2” type release in the first half of 2010 or not. Microsoft says that they are on a 24-36 month release cycle for major releases of SQL Server, which would mean a late 2010 to late 2011 release for the next major release of SQL Server. I sort of doubt that they would do something like an R2 release in early 2010.
