Free Microsoft Ramp Up Training

Microsoft has a free online training program called MSDN Ramp Up, which teaches you important skills in a guided path, making the learning process easier and more efficient. The available tracks are pretty developer focused (which makes sense, since it is part of MSDN), but I think it makes sense for DBAs to maintain their development skills, unless you are one of those DBAs who just likes to drink coffee and watch PerfMon all day…

Each track has a combination of reading material and virtual labs that you have to complete to graduate from the track. The available tracks are listed below:

  1. SharePoint For Developers Part 1
  2. SharePoint For Developers Part 2
  3. Visual Studio 2008
  4. Developer Basics
  5. Java Developer: Learn .NET
  6. VB6 Developer: Learn VB2005
  7. VS 2002/2003 Developer: Learn VS 2005

You get a variety of benefits for completing each learning track, such as a 25% discount on a specific Microsoft Certification exam (plus a free retake if you fail), a 30% discount on a Microsoft Press book, 40-50% discounts on E-Learning collections, etc. Not a bad deal for free.
