Be careful if you create indexes with the SSMS GUI

Previously, I wrote about strange behavior I noticed with the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) when you create indexes using the GUI (as opposed to running a script). The problem is that page level locking is disabled on the index by default by the GUI, which then causes an error when you try to defragment the index (using ALTER INDEX REORGANIZE).

It turns out that this is a defect with the SSMS GUI that will be corrected in SQL Server 2005 SP2. In the meantime, make sure that you enable page level locking for the index yourself on the Options page in the GUI when you create a new index in SSMS.
