Windows Experience Index in Vista

Tom’s Hardware has an interesting article about how the built in Windows Experience Index (WEI) benchmark system in Vista compares to various real world application benchmarks on various systems. Overall, WEI tracks pretty well with most of the real application benchmarks.

Nick White (from the Windows Vista Team) goes into more detail about exactly what is tested in the WEI benchmarks. I think WEI is a pretty useful tool for evaulating system performance, especially for lay people. One of my favorite things when I am in a store selling new computers is to pull up the WEI display on each system, just to take a look at them, but I am weird that way…
