Microsoft’s marketing folks generated a lot of excitement and confusion this week at the Worldwide Partner Conference in Denver, when they announced that Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2008 would all be "launched" on Feb 27, 2008.
A lot of people (including me) got excited and assumed that this also meant that all three products would RTM sometime before that date. Some uninformed naysayers, such as Joe Wilcox, the new guy at Microsoft Watch, took this as evidence that RTM for Server 2008 had slipped. More evidence that Mary Jo Foley is much better informed than her weaker replacement.
Euan Garden sets everyone straight about this here. Server 2008 is still scheduled to RTM in November 2007, while SQL Server 2008 will be "some time later".
