Microsoft’s SQL Server Director of Product Management, Francois Ajenstadt blogged today about how the RTM date for SQL Server 2008 will be in Q3 2008. The news has also been covered by Mary Jo Foley and Joe Wilcox. My take on this is that I would rather take a small schedule slip rather than RTM it before it is ready. I believe that Microsoft learned their lesson with the long, painful SQL Server 2005 development cycle, and they have a much better handle on the scope of this release.
The Public CTP releases of Katmai have been pretty solid, quality-wise so far. As long as Katmai is RTM before the end of 2008, I won’t be too unhappy.
