Microsoft’s Chris Williams has announced that CU6 is available for SQL Server 2005 SP2. This is good news, but right now, the online page that you use to request the CU is broken. Hopefully, Microsoft will get that fixed pretty quickly, since it is much more convenient than calling CSS to get the update. Along those lines, I hope that Microsoft decides to release SP3 for SQL Server 2005 instead of CU7.
I think that six cumulative updates on Service Pack 2 are enough. Many DBA’s don’t trust Cumulative Updates nearly as much as service packs (maybe because they are not familiar with Microsoft’s Incremental Servicing Model), so just from a PR perspective, Microsoft would be better off releasing SP3 for SQL Server 2005.
