Microsoft Gives Us “Lock Pages In Memory” for SQL Server 2005 and 2008 Standard Edition

Microsoft’s Bob Ward has a post up announcing that Microsoft will be adding a new trace flag that allow you to enable “Lock Pages In Memory” as part of the next Cumulative Update for both SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008. The trace flag will be included in these builds:

CU2 for SQL Server 2008 SP1 – Currently scheduled for May 2009

CU4 for SQL Server 2005 SP3 – Currently scheduled for June 2009

As Aaron Bertrand, notes, this was after a lot of pressure from the user community and from SQL MVPs. I was there at the MVP Summit in March 2009, when there was a near riot about the subject (assuming SQL MVPs would actually riot), so it is nice to see Microsoft change their mind on this!
