Why You May Not Want To Use Oracle RAC

The Data Platform Insider blog has a link to a technical article called “Why SQL Server May Be More Suitable for You:
A Competitive Review of Oracle Real Application Clusters” that points out some of the shortcomings of Oracle RAC such as high cost (for both software and hardware), added complexity, and low adoption rate among Oracle customers.

I was surprised to learn that according to Oracle and Gartner, only 3-5% of Oracle customers are using Oracle RAC in a production environment. That seems like a pretty telling statistic about the cost and complexity of Oracle RAC.
