Understanding SQL Server Backups

SQL MVP Paul Randal has an excellent article in the July 2009 issue of TechNet Magazine called Understanding SQL Server Backups. This is the first article in a three part series about backups and backup strategies, recovery from disasters using backups, and recovery from disasters without backups.

SQL MVP Gail Shaw has a good post up recently about the difference between high availability and backups. Unfortunately, I encounter many “accidental” DBAs who don’t know the difference. SQL Server is relatively easy to install and get running for people who don’t really have any expertise or experience as a DBA.
